2012 The Wolftrap – Boekenhoutskloof Franschhoek
Syrah Mourvedre Viognier
Western Cape South Africa
Not going to let on like we know a lot about South African Wines other than this fact: This stuff is good! Ripe berries sweet spice, touch of oak and just enough earthiness to round it out. Grill & Chill while it’s still warm or consume on the Patio of your local Five Guys or In & Out.
2011 Musar Jeune – Chateau Musar
Bekaa Valley – Lebanon
Yep. They make wine here. Even when stuff is blowing up around them. Musar has made what some have classified as “Bordeaux” style wine since the 30″s. Discovered by Famous Wine Geek Michael Broadbent, since 1979 they have consistently put out super hi quality blends that although influenced by Bordeaux ( you see a lot of Cabernet & Merlot in most blends) they maintain a certain uniqueness and house style.
The 2011 Jeaune is a fun blend of Cinsault (earthy plummy) Syah (red fruit, pepper savory) & Cab Sauv. (dark fruit, violets & tannins)
Like Old School Rap & cheap booze this guy is best consumed while young. Unoaked and medium bodied it has a lot of class and complexity that will impress BBQ buddies and/or Wine Snobs alike.
Until we meet again.
